Featuring a dedicated recording space (approx 60m square) and a control room built in a custom facility completed in June 2009, featuring ProTools HD 8 as well as a totally separate backup studio running Cubase 5, Reason 4 and using one of the latest Digital Recording consoles.

But just because its a brand new studio doesn't mean we're changing our philosophy. Read below about how we run things differently here, in essence we don't believe in forcing you to sign up to block booking sessions in the studio - we're totally flexible and fit around you, not the other way round. So, fancy laying down the guitar tracks one night, then coming back another time for an hour or two to do the vocals? Thats no problem!

Precentor Studio 1 is a residential recording studio based in York, UK. With a proven track record delivering music in a wide variety of styles, we have the equipment, experience and passion to deliver fantastic music in a relaxed and productive environment.

Record When and Where you want!

Our philosophy is very simple. We're not keen on the usual recording studio set up, and like to offer something which encourages creativity. Quite simply, we don't ask for any form of block booking, or limit you to where you record.

There are 2 key stages to making music - recording, and mixing/mastering. For recording, you might want to record a session at your local rehearsal studio, at a gig or even in your bedroom. Thats fine - we bring all the necessary equipment to you. Or, you may want to have the full studio experience - thats fine too, we have a close relationship with York's most prestigious studio and can offer discounted rates for bookings made through us.

Mixing and Mastering then takes place at our state of the art residential studio 1 (just 5 minutes walk from York station).

But now comes the good bit - theres no need to block book time with us. For example, you might want to lay down a guitar solo one evening, but you're not sure how long it'll take - it might take 5 minutes, or 3 hours. Thats fine with us - you only pay for time you're making use of the studio. We originally came up with this idea after speaking to a number of artists about the pressures of having to record in a typical studio environment, where the clock is ticking and the pressure to deliver actually detracts from the creative process. Add to this the standard block booking approach - an 8 hour session in a studio can be very tiresome and detract from the end product. We are totally passionate about getting the best performances possible, and believe our innovative approach leads to a much more creative and enjoyable experience for all involved.
